jumpers

On average, someone jumps off the Golden Gate bridge every two weeks, totaling nearly 1300 recorded deaths so far. The SFGate has a map of the jumps based on the closest lightpole to each jump.

Some more facts about jumping from the Golden Gate bridge: It takes 4 seconds to hit the water, at which time you are travelling about 75mph. Hit the water flat and your organs burst, hit the water completely vertical and you dive so deep you can't get to the surface in time. There have been 26 survivors. Survivors generally hit the water at a slight angle and sustain serious injuries.

There has recently been a renewed push for a suicide barrier to be installed on the bridge.

I like the implication that if only there were a barrier, those people wouldn't have died.

Bridges don't kill people. People kill themselves.
